Loa, Utah - Our dear, sweet mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, DeLynn Hutchings Sorenson, age 83, of Cedar Hills, Utah, died January 1, 2014 in American Fork, Utah. She was born March 31, 1930 in Beaver, Utah, a daughter of Gilbert Alden and Alice Amelia Paice Hutchings. She graduated from Bakersfield High School, Bakersfield, California, Class of 1948 and attended San Luis Obispo Junior College for 1 year; 2 years at San Jose State College and 1 year at Utah State University, graduating in 1952 with a degree in Secondary Education. DeLynn married Merwin Voyle Sorenson, June 11, 1952 in the Manti LDS Temple. They made their home in Bakersfield, where they raised their four children. Merwin died November 25, 1978. Mom was an active member of the LDS Church, with a lifetime of service, including Primary and Relief Society President, and was involved in many humanitarian projects throughout the years. She served for years in the Primary when her children were younger and in Ward and Stake Relief Society as Homemaking Leader for over 10 years. She was a Home Economics Teacher, a member of the Parent Teacher Association and the Future Homemakers of America. Her hobbies included sewing lots of clothing for her daughters dance costumes; and cheer uniforms for her daughters and their friends. She enjoyed crafts and tole painting. She loved watching her kids sports games and performances, as well as grandkids and great-grandkids events. Mom was an avid BYU fan, and a 49ers fan especially during the Steve Young years. She loved to talk to all about BYUtv and BYUtv sports. She loved her family and will enjoy reunions with Merwin and other family and friends who have preceded her in death. Mom is survived by her four children: Kathryn Morrill of Pleasant Grove; Steven Voyle and Donna Sorenson of Highland; Merlyn and Douglas Oyler of Loa; Susan and Craig Braun of Clovis, California; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Paulie Hutchings of Fresno, California; DeOna and Jack Putnam, GaeLynn and Thomas Peterson, all of Loa; RaNae and Darwin Jackson of Richfield; MonTez and Ronnie Steele of Moab; and Joyce Dearden of Fillmore. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Ronald Paice and Beverly Hutchings; Gilbert Alden Hutchings Jr. and a sister-in-law: Arda Mae and George Leon Morrell. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 3, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. in the Fremont LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in the Loa Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
