Derrald J. Mickelson

Gunnison, Utah - Derrald Jack Mickelson, age 84, passed away peacefully at his home in Gunnison on Monday, July 30, 2007 of complications from cancer. He was born April 19, 1923 in Redmond, Utah, a son of Charles Arthur and Christy Marie Breinholt Mickelson. He married Beverly Bown on January 1, 1953 in Manti, Utah. They settled in Gunnison, where they lived and raised their children. Derrald loved spending time with his family. He loved the mountains, fishing and enjoyed growing a garden. He was an avid Jazz fan. GO JAZZ!!! He is survived by his wife of Gunnison; children: Karen and Joe Lamkey, Karma and Todd Haacke, all of Gunnison; Mitch and Fran Mickelson of Salina; Pam and Micheal O’Neil of Aurora; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchilren; brother and sisters: Que and Mathel Mickelson of Redmond; Veone Kelson of West Valley City; Colleen Nielson of Richfield; Myrel and LaMar Whitlock of Midvale. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marcella Hansen; brothers-in-law: Venal Hansen, Ray Kelson and Dorius “Dode” Nielson. Grave side services will be held Saturday, August 4, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. in the Gunnison City Cemetery. Friends may call for viewing at the Gunnison LDS Stake Center, 80 West Center, in Gunnison, Saturday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Gunnison City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
