Donna L. Robins Profile Photo

Donna Louise Robins, age 83, passed away at her home in St. George on January 29, 2024. She was an adoring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to everyone she met. She will be missed by many.

Donna was born September 17, 1940, in Fillmore, to Max and Elizabeth Kenney Robins. She grew up in Scipio and later moved to Richfield. As a young girl, she enjoyed spending time outdoors exploring and visiting her grandparents. As a teenager, she loved attending dances, dating, and going to church activities.

She graduated from Richfield High School with the class of 1958 at the age of 17. Shortly after high school, Donna moved to Cedar City to attend college at CSU. While attending college, she enjoyed participating on the baton twirling team and in a singing group.

Shortly after college, she married James D. Calaway on July 23, 1959. Together they had four children and were later divorced.

She married Richard Gomez on October 29, 1982, in Sparks, Nevada. Together they had one child. He preceded her in death November 7, 1991.

Donna was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She loved to teach Primary and Sunday School and started a scouting program in one of her wards. She was a great visiting teacher to those she was assigned and not assigned. She was willing to help those in need by visiting, giving rides, and caring for others. She was a great example of service.

Donna had many hobbies and interests. She loved anything involving taking chance—such as entering contests, collecting coins, buying stocks, and going to the casino to play the penny machines. She enjoyed Coca-Cola memorabilia, antique toys, dolls, and stamps. She enjoyed going dancing and going out to lunch with friends. She loved Avon products and wouldn't go without her Avon butter rum lipstick. She was an Avon lady for many years and sold products to all her friends around town.

She loved listening to Elvis Presley, Neil Diamond, and Julio Iglesias. She wrote poems and won a poem contest (poem included below) at the age of 66. She enjoyed creating modern art with watercolors and crayons. Most of all she loved being a mom and knew that was her calling. Further, she was a very caring and compassionate person who always went the extra mile to care for others. She was strong and brave through her many trials and had a great love for Heavenly Father and Jesus. She had the gift of uplifting people with her sense of humor, positive attitude, and infectious smile. Everyone who met her loved her, and she wanted to make everyone around her feel loved—it was a true Christlike attribute. A few of her neighbors quoted: "Donna was the butterfly of the building." and "She made my day by telling me how beautiful I looked."

Poem as mentioned above:

Pain and Shame

I can't explain

But conscious came

And let out the flame

It has died now

I have peace at my side

Donna is preceded in death by her parents, Max and Elizabeth Robins; brother, Larry Robins; sister, Ellen Grossarth; grandson, Jared Andrews; and granddaughter, Katie Calaway.

She is survived by her children: Carl (Andrea) Calaway, Tresha (Dave) Andrews, Kim (Alyson) Calaway, Cory (Natalie) Calaway, Shalcy Robins; as well as 23 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
