Doreen S. Anderson Profile Photo

Doreen Sorensen Anderson was reunited with her sweetheart Edward Anderson on January 14, 2023. Doreen was born August 5, 1928 to Mortimer P. and Beatrice Halliday Sorensen. She was the youngest of three children. Her siblings were Bernard Sorensen and Elnora (Lonnie) Hosac.

Doreen grew up and lived all her life on the same plot of ground where she was born in Gunnison, Utah. Her earlier years were filled with herding cows, gathering eggs, tramping hay, and helping her father with the farm work. Doreen met Edward and she began writing to him while he was away serving in World War II. Their friendship blossomed and they were married in the Manti Temple on July 7, 1947. They raised six children, teaching them the importance of hard work, and being together as a family.

In her 94 years, she went from experiencing horse-drawn farming to using the latest computer technology. She enthusiastically embraced the many changes all the while remaining loyal to her traditional ways. The difficult challenges in her life were always softened by her clever wit.

Her service in the church was anchored in her testimony of the restored gospel. Doreen served valiantly in a variety of church callings. Following the early passing of her husband she served a full-time mission in the California San Diego Mission as a single sister missionary. She also cherished many years of service as an ordinance worker in the Manti Temple. When she could no longer serve in the temple she filled her days with family history work.

Doreen is survived by her children: Curtis (Marsha) Anderson, Steve (Sherry) Anderson, Judy (Kent) Staheli, Jeffrey (Cheryl) Anderson, Loreen (Tracy) Littledike, and Mark (Deah) Anderson; 29 grandchildren, 79 great-grandchildren with one on the way, and 7 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Also preceded in death by her husband, her parents, siblings, and grandson: Marty Anderson.

The family would like to express a special thanks to Home Health Caregivers for the years of care so she could remain in her own home until the last few weeks of her life and to Wade Anderson (PA-C) aka Dr. Wade and the wonderful nurses and staff at the Gunnison Valley Hospital,

Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 20, 2023 at 12:00 Noon in the Gunnison LDS Stake Center, where friends may call for viewing Friday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 prior to the services.
