Salina, Utah - Gaylord Kendrick Harward, age 69, of Salt Lake City and formerly of Salina, Utah, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2006, after a very short battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born May 12, 1936 in Aurora, Utah, a son of Kendrick Harding and Edith LoRene Thompson Harward. His family moved from Aurora to Richfield when he was twelve. He graduated from Richfield High School in 1954 after being involved in many activities especially the dance band. He then attended Brigham Young University and later married his high school sweetheart, Pauline Anderson, July 6, 1955 in the Manti LDS Temple. They moved to St. George where he attended Dixie College and later graduated from Utah State University in 1960. Gaylord and Pauline and their family lived in Idaho for many years after accepting employment with Farmer’s Home Administration. He returned to Utah in 1974 to work with his family in the turkey business. In 1990 he was employed with Zion’s Bank in Richfield and retired in 2000. He will be remembered for his strong testimony of the Savior which he instilled in his family and often expressed. Gaylord had a humble, quiet way of serving others and a compassionate, giving heart. Small children were always a joy for him. Gaylord is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities. Among many, he served as a Bishop’s Counselor three times, High Counselor, Bishop and First Counselor in the Salina Utah Stake Presidency. He and Pauline served a family history mission as trainers. This greatly added to an already strong love for family history work. After returning from their mission, they served as assistant directors in the Salina Stake Family History Library. They moved to Salt Lake City in 2005 where they enjoyed continuing their family history work and attending cultural activities including many Mormon Tabernacle Choir performances. Gaylord enjoyed many outdoor activities especially snowmobiling with his sons, grandsons and other friends and family. He is survived by his wife, Pauline, as well as their six children: Cindy (Kevin) Eppich, Salina; Paul (Kaelynn) Harward, Riverton; Diana (Tom) Evans, Layton; Kendrick (Christine) Harward, Cedar City; LoRene (Joseph) Rains, West Jordan; Merinda (Dexter) Crane, Riverton; also thirty-one grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren who love im dearly; brothers and sisters: Shanna (Rikard) Pearson, Warren (Mary Lou) Harward; Saundra (Blaine) Breinholt; DeAnne (Brad) Ward; Marie (Don) Peterson. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Roger Harward. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 21, 2006 at 12 Noon in the Salina LDS Stake Center, 98 West 400 North, where friends may call for viewing Friday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. and again Saturday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Aurora City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
