Our beautiful Mother, LaJuana Cox Moore Coburn, graduated mortality and returned to Heaven on September 25, 2023 (age 83). A resident of Central Valley, UT, she was most recently residing at Monroe Canyon Assisted Living in Monroe, Utah. The family expresses gratitude to the staff of Monroe Canyon Assisted Living and Zion’s Way Hospice for their compassionate care.
LaJuana was born in Kanab, Utah on May 26, 1940 to Walter Valden Cox and Vivian Eaton, and mostly resided there through high school graduation in 1958. She met and married Roy Allen Moore, Sr. in Helena, MT and started their family there (Carol, Roy Jr, Gaelynn, Michael). The Moores moved to Richfield, UT in 1968, and later divorced in 1972. LaJuana married DeWitt Coburn (Marysvale, UT) in 1993.
What makes our Mom uniquely special to us? She had an angelic singing voice despite 7 surgeries while in childhood. She performed in high school musicals, rodeo/fairs, and pubs, and most memorably around the campfire with her kids and grandkids. She accomplished the goal of singing publicly and for hire, including with her friend, Charlie Pride. Instead of a singing career, she chose marriage and motherhood. With 4 children to raise alone in 1972, she went back to school and graduated in Business from Sevier Valley Tech (Richfield, UT) in 1974. There were no jobs beneath her, she initially worked as a bar maid and sang, worked as a secretary, and eventually acquired the qualifications to drive semi’s and heavy axle equipment over-the-road and in challenging construction conditions. She eventually traded in the big trucks for driving limousines in Las Vegas. While living there, she was re-activated in her faith (LDS) and remained devoted to it the remainder of life. She loved her acceptance and involvement in Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Mom took courses at Snow College (Richfield) to acquire computer skills that aided her in serving in Family History callings and community services. Mom raised her family with faith in God, which faithfulness remains an anchor in all our lives.
Mom connected with the hearts of everyone she met and responded with compassion, patience and sacrifice. After retiring from professional driving, she worked and volunteered in areas where she could serve the most marginalized members of the community, including: Community Careers, Meals On Wheels, and Intermountain Health Care Hospice. In 2011 Mom was recognized and thanked for her service as a Senior Corps Member of the Utah Commission on Volunteers.
Mom loves her siblings and kept in close contact with them and their families. They’ve tried to gather annually and also attend one another’s family achievements.
