Koosharem, Utah - Lorena Lucille Lord was born to Charles August and Mary Dunks Forste on March 1, 1918, in Orange, Texas. It was a stressful time in world history and times were not easy for her family. Her parents were both undergraduate nurses, and when Lorena was about four years old, the family moved to Kentucky—near Louisville—where both parents could work as nurses in Peewee Valley Sanitarium. In 1927, Carthage, Missouri became home to the family. As the third of five children, Lorena was often involved in caring for her brothers and sisters while her parents worked. In the spring of 1933 the mother and four of the children moved to Texas where Lorena continued her high school education before declaring her independence. Lorena moved to California where she began to work and provide for herself. While living in her aunt's home in Pomona, California, she met Charlie Dodd, whom she married on August 5, 1938 in Los Angeles, California. After only a year or marriage, Charlie passed away on August 7, 1939 and Lorena was left a widow. She was a hard worker and worked in Civil Service jobs in several difference places during the following years. It was while she was working in the VA Hospital in Prescott, AZ, that she met Ted Lord, and they soon married on August 30, 1970 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ted died June 22, 1991. As the time for Ted and Lorena’s retirement neared. they began looking for a quiet place to live where Ted could enjoy his hobbies of hunting and fishing. They choose Koosharem Valley to be their new home, and they quickly became a vital part of the small community. When Lorena married Ted, she accepted his grown children as her own. It was important to Lorena to be a good "step-mom" to Ted’s children and their spouses: Gary and Janet, Jim and Betty, Penny and Joe, and Bob and Susan. Lorena was also a proud grandmother of their children. She will long be remembered as a very caring, loving person who tried to meet the needs of others if she could find a way to do so. She loved to crochet and knit and made many creations to share with friends and loved ones. Lorena continues to be missed in the Koosharem Valley and the Mayfield Care Center where she has been a resident for the last several years. Lorena passed away on October 9, 2009, at the age of 91. She leaves to mourn, two sisters: Eleanor Garcia and Alice Pierson of Moberly, MO; a sister-in-law Wanda Forste of Portales, NM; step-children: Gary and Janet Lord of Forest Hill, CA, Jim and Betty Lord of Cedar City, UT, Penny and Joe LeGrand of Lakeview CA, Bob and Susan Lord of Prescott, AZ. Also left to mourn are 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Lorena Lord was preceded in death by both her parents, Mary and August Forste, two brothers--Harold and Charles Forste, a sister-in-law, Sarah Forste, and her husbands, Charlie Dodd and Ted Lord.
