Loa, Utah - Arnold Jack Ehlers, age 85, of Loa was released from his earthly bonds on December 14, 2013 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born December 11, 1928 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a son of Arnold Henry and Thelma Charlotta Erickson Ehlers. Jack married the love of his life, Marilyn Black, November 5, 1951 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was a retired architect, Rotarian and private pilot. He was very proud of the numerous schools and LDS chapels he designed in Utah and other western states. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1951 to 1953 which included time spent in Korea, and as a Coxswain in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary at Lake Powell from 1984 to 1994. Jack sang with the Beehive Statesmen Barbershop Chorus and was Concert Master of the Westminster Community Symphony Orchestra for several years. His great passion in life was collecting model trains and spending time at Lake Powell teaching young people how to water ski. He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Marilyn B. Ehlers of Holliday; children: Bret and Heidi Elhers of Salt Lake City; Jackie Timothy of Juneau, Alaska; Patti and Dave Wynn of Cedar City; Shanna Bryant of Orem; Tal and Julianne Ehlers of Vernal; 20 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters: Elaine and Durant Black, Narda and Robert Woodford, all of Salt Lake City. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Terry Ehlers. Grave side services will be held Friday, December 20, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. in the Loa Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Harold Brown American Legion Post #92 and the Utah Honor Guard, under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
