Alan Glen Young

July 2, 1940 — November 30, 2015

Las Vegas, Nevada/Richfield, Utah - Alan Glen Young, age 75, of Las Vegas and formerly of Richfield, passed away November 30, 2015 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was born July 2, 1940 in Richfield, a son of Leland Archibald and Grace Olsen Young. He graduated from Richfield High School in 1958. Alan served an LDS Mission to the England Southwest British Mission and held various callings in the church through the years. He married Saundra LoRene Harward, June 14, 1963 in the Manti LDS Temple and together they had six children. They were later divorced. He married Barbara Linkous, December 24, 2000 in St. George, Utah. Alan was dedicated to his construction company and became president of L.A. Young Construction in 1963 at the age of 21 after his brother's death. L.A. Young Construction grew to over 300 employees. They built much of 1-70. L.A. Construction expanded to building construction. ABC built the Sevier County Court House, Sevier Valley Trade Center and the RHS Seminary building. They also created LAYS Rock Products. Alan was awarded the Eric W. Ryberg award in 1979 by the Associated General Contractors of Utah. Alan served 2 terms on the Board of AGC and then President of the Board in 1983. He was instrumental in establishing Valley Central Bank in Richfield and served on the Board of Directors for several years. Currently Alan and Barbara were owners of Bay Construction and Supply LLC, a government procurement company based out of Las Vegas, Nevada. Alan is survived by his wife, Barbara of Las Vegas; children: Patrica and Paul Adams of Bountiful; Merrick and Stephanie Young of West Yellowstone, Montana; Jennifer Young of Cedar City; Cameron and Elizabeth Young of St. George; Devin and Jolene Young of Plain City; Rachel and Blake Mickelson of St. George; Renee and Austin Judkins of Las Vegas, Nevada; 20 grandchildren; sisters: Elaine Jarrett of Logan; Janice and Jack Parker of Springville; Christie Lee and Grant Richards of Orem. He was preceded in death by a son, Alan Glen Young II; his parents; a brother, Leland Archibald Young II; a sister, Grace Jean Young; and a granddaughter, Anna Shirley Young. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. in the Richfield 7th LDS Ward Chapel, 59 North 400 West in Richfield. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home, 260 North 400 West in Richfield, Friday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or at the ward chapel, Saturday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Richfield City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
