Torrey, Utah - Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, Alan Larson Chatterton, age 78, of Torrey, died June 13, 2013 in Richfield, Utah. He was born December 13, 1934 in Preston, Idaho, a son of Elmer Buckley and Louvana Larson Chatterton. He graduated from Preston High School, Class of 1952. Alan served his country in the US Army. He served from 1954 to 1956, receiving the Good Conduct Metal and was a vehicle mechanic. He then went to college and got a Master's Degree in Psychology. Al retired from the Salt Lake County Mental Health Center, where he worked with troubled children and their families. They nick named him "Uncle Al the kiddies pal". He retired to Torrey, Utah where he has presided for the past 25 years. Al loved wood carving, fishing, hiking, camping and making jewelry. He possessed an extreme talent in various forms of art. He was an avid collector of artifacts and rocks he found while exploring all of southern Utah's great landscapes. He worked as a tour guide for Hondoo in Torrey for several years. Al loved taking his kids and granddaughters to hidden wonders throughout Utah, educating them and telling stories of his life. He was the best grandpa, ever. He is survived by his children: Alan Craig Chatterton of Ocean View, Hawaii; Deborah C. and Ray L. Johnstone of Lyman; grandchildren: Nishelle and Jeremiah Wood; Katie Chatterton; Sharice Gonzales and Camille Chatterton; 3 great-grandchildren; a brother, DeVon and Rosa Chatterton of Brea, California. An Open House in honor of the life of Al Chatterton, will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2013 from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. at The Mill Lodge 1400 South Highway 24, which is approximately one mile south of Lyman of the eastside of the Highway 24. At his request, his remains have been cremated and burial will take place at a later date under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
