Cedar City/Salina, Utah – Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, Eric Allen Thorsen, age 84, passed away February 19, 2025 in Cedar City, Utah. He was born January 2, 1941, in Salina, a son of Harry Martin and Ada Mildred (Midge) Rogers Thorsen. He grew up in Salina, where he enjoyed building and making all kinds of things. He had a knack for electronics and built his own telephone. He enjoyed hunting and helping out on the family farm. Allen graduated from North Sevier High School, Class of 1954. He attended college in Denver, Colorado and then moved to Santa Monica, California where he met and married the love of his life, Judith Ann Howell May 8, 1964, in the Los Angeles LDS Temple. He worked at Litton Industries while living in California. They moved back to his hometown of Salina where they lived and raised their family.
Allen was a journeyman electrician, and he had a 2nd Class Radio Telephone Operators license. He was a member of the Salina Jaycees and received the Jaycee Distinguished Service Award and served as President. He served as Secretary Treasure of the Gooseberry Creek Irrigation Company. He got his teaching certificate for post-high education and taught auto mechanics at Sevier Valley Tech where he fought for Teacher’s Rights. His hobby was studying law. He enjoyed gardening and taking care of his cattle.
Allen is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many different callings, including Scout leader and High Priest Group Leader. Allen and Judy were Directors of the Family History Center in Salina for 20 years. They loved doing genealogy and family history work.
The last three years, Allen and Judy have been living in Cedar City, next to their daughter.
Allen is survived by his loving wife, Judy, of Cedar City; his daughter: Rebecca and Douglas Spencer of Cedar City; a daughter-in-law: Halerie Thorsen of West Jordan; 5 grandchildren: Eric Spencer, McKayla Spencer, Alyssa Spencer, Madison Spencer and Travis Thorsen.
He is preceded in death by two sons: Scott Thorsen and Eric Albert Thorsen; and his parents, Harry and Midge Thorsen.
Funeral services will be held of Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. in the Salina Creek LDS Ward Chapel, 87 South 100 East in Salina. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home, 150 East Main Street in Salina, Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. or Saturday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the services.
Burial will be in the Salina Eastside Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
