Anita Mercer

Richfield, Utah- Anita Ruth Mercer, age 70, passed away September 12, 2023 at her home in Richfield, Utah.

Anita was born August 3, 1953 in Bakersfield, California. She lived in several areas around the west coast during her childhood, including Bakersfield and Huntington Park, California and Eugene, Oregon. She graduated from high school in 1971 while living in Huntington Park.

Anita was a city girl. After graduation she met a small town kid, Don Mercer, while she was attending Fresno City College in 1973. Anita and Don were married September 10, 1975. Anita worked as a retail clerk for 35 years and enjoyed the opportunities and friendships she gained during that time.

She and Don became avid campers and backpackers. Together they lived near the central Sierra Nevada Mountain range and made many excursions exploring the area. They enjoyed spending time in the Sierra National Forrest, Sequoia National Forrest, John Muir Wilderness and the California Coastal Range- Big Sir.

In 1988 the couple purchased a cabin along a creek in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. She and Don renovated the little cabin inside and out for the next 28 years. When it was finished, the couple decided it was time to find an easier life, without a 45-mile drive to the nearest town.

Don and Anita spent time on the road after they retired, trying to find an area to relocate to for the remaining years of their life. They decided on Richfield and moved to Utah in 2016.

Anita enjoyed quilting, especially as her health began to fade. She always kept a positive attitude and sense of humor. She will be greatly missed by those who had the pleasure to know her.

Anita is survived by her husband Donald Ray Mercer.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. in the Springer Turner Funeral Home chapel, 260 North 400 West, in Richfield, Utah.

Services are under the care of Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
