Loa, Utah - Our dear, sweet mother, grandmother, sister, missionary and friend, Arda Mae Sorenson Morrell, age 71, passed away unexpectedly while serving as a missionary for the LDS Church in the Charlotte North Carolina Mission on November 17, 2010. She was born February 7, 1939 in Lyman, Utah, a daughter of Voyle Erastus and Lillie Maxfield Sorenson. Her reunion with them must have been glorious! Mom grew up in Wayne County and married her sweetheart, George Loen Morrell, September 14, 1956 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died August 21, 2008. Mom has quietly accomplished many great things in her life. After marrying our Dad, she worked in Salt Lake City while Dad attended BYU. When they moved back to Wayne County for Dad’s first teaching and coaching job, Mom worked as Deputy Treasurer, Recorder and Assessor for the County. She became an EMT, which she loved. She had a wonderful career at the Wayne County Clinic. She and Malan Jackson were instrumental in getting the clinic going. In its beginning, Mom did it all: registered the patients, did laboratory tests, assisted the Physician’s Assistant and Doctors with procedures, took X rays and did whatever else was needed to be done. She was the Medical Director at the Clinic for over 23 years. She received numerous awards as the President of the “Association of Utah Community Health". After retiring, Mom and Dad served in the Manti LDS Temple, until Dad’s health declined. Mom has been our champion in this life, cheering us on in everything we do. We feel her love and know she is cheering for us still. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, raising beautiful flowers and attending anything that involved her family. She has been very active in the LDS Church, serving in the Stake Primary Presidency, Relief Society, Ward Music Coordinator, Temple Worker and currently as a missionary. She was so excited to serve a mission. She really caught the missionary spirit and loved serving the missionaries with her responsibilities in the mission home in North Carolina. Mom’s greatest achievement, though, is her family. She is survived by her children: Lynette Johnson, Bruce and Natalie Morrell, all of Loa; Jeri and Karl Albrecht of South Jordan; Beth and Joel Bass of South Ogden; Jody and Vijay Kumar of Lehi; Kade V.L. and Michelle Morrell of Fremont; 20 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; her beloved sisters: DeOna and Jack Putnam, GaeLynn and Thomas Peterson, all of Loa; Ranae and Darwin Jackson of Richfield; Montez and Ronnie Steele of Moab; Joyce Deardon of Orem; sister-in-law: DeLynn Sorenson of American Fork. She had a close relationship with her many cousins, and her brother and sister-in-law: Dean and Doris Morrell. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Cody Johnson; a brother, Merwin Voyle Sorenson; and a brother-in-law: Lester J. Oyler. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. in the Loa LDS Stake Center, where friends may call for viewing Monday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or Tuesday morning from 10:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Loa Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
