Marysvale, Utah - Arthur Frederick Roth, age 88, a longtime resident of Marysvale, Utah, died on July 2, 2005 in the Richfield Rehabilitation and Care Center. Art was born June 17, 1917 in Fresno, California, a son of Carl and Cora Belle Gill Roth. He married Kathryn Eileen Ward on February 4, 1940 in San Diego, California. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. After his discharge from the Army, he worked for the Hormel Meat Company, managed a clothing design and manufacturing plant, and then became an executive in a grocery chain in California. Art was active in the Boy Scouts of American during the late 1950s. He served as chairman of the San Diego County Council of the Boy Scouts and served as a delegate to the national council. He was awarded the Silver Beaver in 1959 for his work on the national council of the Boy Scouts. On July 24, 1962, Art and his family moved to Marysvale, where he farmed, raised cattle and built several homes. Art and Kathryn raised their three sons in Marysvale. Their sons are Arthur of Marysvale; Fred (Jerelyn) of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Stephen (Rosalind) of Springdale, Utah. Art and Kathryn were married for 61 years and 2 days, until her death on February 6, 2001. Art loved fishing, hiking and camping with his boys. He was an avid photographer of birds, butterflies and flowers, and enjoyed classical music and literature. Art married Audrey Gale Armstrong Holland on September 29, 2001 in Marysvale. During the nearly four years they were married, they enjoyed traveling and maintained homes in Marysvale and Arizona. Art was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters, and his wife Kathryn. He is survived by his wife, Audrey, his three sons, 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. in the Marysvale Baptist Church, where friends may call for viewing Tuesday morning one hour prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Piute VFW Post #7561 will be in the Mountain View Cemetery in Marysvale under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
