Austin, Texas/Salina, Utah - Barry Desmond Sorensen, of Austin, Texas and formerly of Salina, Utah, left us unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at his home in Austin. Our father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle, left this world way too early, at age 58. He was born March 14, 1953, in Salina, Utah, a son of Marlin J. and Nelda Zufelt Sorensen. He graduated from North Sevier High School, Class of 1971, where he was very in active in sports and graduated with high honors. He attended Utah State University in Logan and then transferred to the University of Utah in Salt lake City, where he graduated with a BS degree in 1975. He graduated from the Air Force ROTC and was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force. He worked with GTE (General Telephone Electronics). He enjoyed it very much. His work took him traveling to Thailand, Holland, etc, He lived in California, and just recently moved to Austin, Texas. Barry is survived by his daughter Tara and Jeff Hoppie of Lehi; his grandchildren: Zane Andrew Hoppie and Nyah Elizabeth Hoppie; brother and sisters: Marlin and Diane Sorensen of St George; Gwen and Rae Noyes of Salina; Jeanette and Lee Malmgren of Gunnison. Grave side services with military honors accorded by the Salina American Legion Post #36 and the Utah Honor Guard will be held Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. in the Salina Pioneer Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
