Barry Spencer Young, 46, died August 12, 2022, at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah, from complications of cardiac arrest. He was born March 16, 1976, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Jim and Faye Young. After four girls, Jim and Faye thought for sure that they were forming a girls' basketball team. But then this blond-haired, brown-eyed boy came along and surprised them all. They named him Barry after a family ancestor, and Spencer after the Latter-day Saint prophet Spencer W. Kimball. Barry was a toddler when the family moved to North Carolina, and just 6 years old when they moved again to Kanab, Utah. Kanab was one of Barry's favorite places. He graduated from Kanab High School in 1994, then served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the New Jersey Morristown Mission from 1995-1997. Barry married Nadege Jacquet in 1997 in Kanab; they later divorced, but shared a love for their two children, Samantha and Tony. Barry worked in a variety of jobs over the years, but he was happiest doing anything that involved being outside. He was a talented landscaper, and helped his family make improvements to their yards on more than one occasion. Somewhere along the way, addiction took hold and Barry battled it the rest of his life. He is free of that now, and capable of the potential he always had. But we will miss him so much. Barry's booming deep voice and 6'6" frame filled the room. He was a friend to everyone, and generous almost to a fault. Barry would literally give someone the shirt off his back. He loved a good joke, playing basketball in the Utah Summer Games, and most of all spending time with his parents, siblings, and children. Barry is survived by his children: Samantha Young (fiancé Alec Bowen), West Jordan, and Tony Young (girlfriend Ahmari Clincy), Salt Lake City, and one granddaughter, Noa Bowen; parents: Jim and Faye Young, Richfield; siblings: RaeLene (Frank) Terry, Herriman; Melanie Brower, Rexburg, Idaho; Kristilee (Brett) Groves, Cedar City; Evalissa Young, Martinez, Ga.; Bradley (Lisa) Young, Spartanburg, S.C.; and Jeremy (Heather) Young, Hampton, Va. Barry also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Barry will be cremated per his family's wishes. A celebration of life will take place Saturday, Sept. 10 from 1-4 p.m. at 13003 S. 6400 West in Herriman, with a memorial service at 2:00. The sudden and life-changing nature of Barry’s passing has upset the foundation of our family. Many have reached out and asked how to help during this time. If you are able and comfortable doing so, we would really appreciate any donation, big or small, towards his celebration of life, and to help Barry’s children. Venmo: Barry Donations or @forbarry. Cash App: Barry Donations or $forbarry. Those who would prefer to donate in person may do so at any Mountain America Credit Union branch under the name Barry Young Donations.
