Richfield, Utah - Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, Benjamin Nephi Barney, age 88, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2017 at his home in Richfield, surrounded by his loving family, and into the arms of his Eternal Family. He was born December 27, 1928 in Elsinore, a son of Lushon and Evelyn Levi Barney. He was raised in Elsinore where he learned the value of hard work. He joined the United States Army and served his country from January of 1947 to April of 1948. He married the love of his life, Marla Rose Zabriskie August 27, 1950 in Richfield. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple June 19, 1963. Ben and Marla made their home in Richfield, where they raised their five children. Ben worked for and retired from the Georgia Pacific Gypsum Plant in Sigurd, where he met many lifelong friends. Ben was an active member of the LDS Church, serving as the Elder's Secretary and as a faithful Home Teacher. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren. Ben enjoyed being in the mountains and enjoying nature. He loved gardening. Ben is survived by his beloved and caring wife, Marla, of Richfield; children: Doris Barney of West Jordan; Douglas Kirk Barney of Venice; Lori and Brad Whittaker of Richfield; Shayne and Connie Barney of Aurora; 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a daughter, Marlane Barney and all of his siblings and their spouses: Lorna Hansen, Grant Lushon Barney, Nina Carrigan, Eleanor Winn Barney, Arnold Barney, Harlin Barney, Myrtle King, Neta Davidson and Joe Levi Barney. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 12 Noon in the Springer Turner Funeral Home Chapel in Richfield, where friends may call for viewing Saturday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the VFW Sevier Post #5050 and the Utah Honor Guard will be in the Richfield City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
