Bernice M. Chappell

June 16, 1916 — July 22, 2005

Lyman, Utah - Our kind and beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, Bernice Maxfield Chappell, age 89, died on Friday, July 22, 2005 at her home in Lyman of natural causes. She was born June 16, 1916 in Lyman, a daughter of Nathan Tanner and Martha Rose Ann Sampson Maxfield. She married Farrell LaMont Chappell, December 19, 1938 in the Manti LDS Temple. Farrell died July 4, 2000. Bernice attended Wayne High School in Bicknell. She was an active member of the LDS Church, where she held leadership positions in all the auxiliaries She served a mission with her husband to the Arizona-Phoenix Mission. They also served as ordinance workers at the Manti Temple for several years. Bernice and Farrell were campground host and hostess at Fish Lake and Capitol Reef National Park. Bernice traveled and supported her husband as he served as Wayne County Commissioner. Bernice loved the mountains, camping and fishing. She was always busy with crafts and crocheting. Bernice was always learning and reading. For several years before his death in 2000, Farrell and Bernice spent the winters in Arizona. They loved to square dance and did so for many years. Bernice is survived by her children: Narda Rose Ann and RG Torgerson of Koosharem; Shirley and Walt Hanks of Grover; Myra and Kent Sharp of Riverton; Polly and Ken Armstrong of Santa Clara; Debra (Deceased) and Stanley Peterson of Orem; Danna Kay Orton of Greenville; F. LaMont and Marleen Chappell of Lyman; 33 grandchildren; 74 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Breanna Orton; 5 brothers and 5 sisters. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 30, 2005 at 1:00 P.M. in the Lyman LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call for viewing Friday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. and again Saturday morning from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Lyman Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
