Berva Dawn Malmgren Salina, Utah - Berva Dawn Holdaway Malmgren, age 67, our loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away May 25, 2004 in Provo, Utah, unexpectedly due to complications from heart surgery. She was born January 1, 1937 in Glenwood, Utah, a daughter of Royal Lynn and Bernice Sampson Holdaway. Berva married the love of her life, Lyle Robert Malmgren, April 16, 1954 in Salina, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple January 5, 1980. Berva took great pride in the family that she and Bob had raised. She loved having them around and watching them grow, each one special to her. She loved hooking up to their fifth-wheel trailer to enjoy the company of family and friends. They had met many new friends in their travels that meant the world to them. Berva’s favorite hobby was sharing activities with her life long companion. She looked forward to her golden wedding anniversary part which she was able to celebrate on April 16, 2004. They spent the winters in Yuma, Arizona, where they enjoyed various activities and most of all, each other. She recently learned to play the guitar with her husband beside her on the banjo. She also enjoyed riding four-wheelers, trips and family gatherings. Berva was an active member of the Salina 2nd Ward where she had many callings. She and her husband attended the Manti LDS Temple regularly. They were also home teachers to prisoners at the Central Utah Correctional Facility in Gunnison, Utah. Berva is survived by her husband, Bob, of Salina; children: Debra and Brent Newby, Bobbi and Kent Sylvester, Scott and Lori Malmgren, all of Salina; Bruce and Sandy Malmgren of Aurora; Kerri Weaver of St. George; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; mother-in-law: Fern Nielsen of Centerfield; brothers and sister: Dean and Gwen Holdaway of Hurricane; Ivan and Phyllis Holdaway of Las Vegas, NV; Veryl and Bonnie Holdaway of West Valley City; Gary and Deanne Holdaway of Carpenteria, CA; Lynn and Virginia Holdaway of Colorado Springs, CO; Gaylan and Marleah Holdaway of Boise, ID; Shirleen and Ross Harward of Salina. She was preceded in death by her parents, Royal Lynn and Bernice Sampson Holdaway; a granddaughter, Brittney Bo Sylvester and a grandson, Lenny Brent Newby. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 29, 2004 at 12 Noon in the Salina LDS Stake Center, 98 West 400 North in Salina, where friends may call for viewing Friday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. and again Saturday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Salina Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
