Betha Cowley Halladay

January 7, 1921 — February 1, 2010

Venice, Utah - Our kind and beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Betha Larrain Halladay, age 89, died February 1, 2010 in Glenwood. She was born January 7, 1921 in Venice, Utah, a daughter of Rodney Alonzo and Uraina May Anderson Cowley. She married Harlin Barney in the Manti LDS Temple. He died June 17, 1948. She married Lionel Payne. He died December 16, 1967. She married Lorin Albert Halladay September 5, 1969 in the Manti LDS Temple. He died January 14, 1976. Betha was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in different callings. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Camp Venice. She worked at the sewing plant in Richfield for many years. Betha enjoyed quilting, doll making, painting, doing ceramics, genealogy, doing Temple work and playing her harmonica. She refurbished dolls for the Deseret Industries Store. She is survived by her children: Sharla and Lyman Forsythe of Koosharem; Claude and LeeAnn Payne of Venice; Ranae Barney of Clearfield; step-children: Lael Thalman of Sigurd; RillaDee and Roland Beck of Centerfield; 28 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; sisters: Lillian and Ted Jolley, Betty and Hyrum Luke, all of Venice; Lena and Leslie Nielsen of Kingston; sister-in-law: Joy Cowley of Chico, California. She was preceded in death by two sons: Richard Barney and Douglas Barney; sisters and brothers: Katherine and Dee Sorenson; Leora and Bardell Yardley; Phyllis and George Hansen; Rodger Cowley; Lynn Sorenson and Mack Thalman. Funeral Services will be held Friday, February 5, 2010 at 12 Noon in the Venice LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Richfield, Thursday evening from 6 to 8 P.M . Or at the ward chapel in Venice, Friday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Monroe City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
