Bette Durrant

March 30, 1926 — July 9, 2007

Provo, Utah - Mary Elizabeth Germain Archibald Durrant was born March 30, 1926 in Halifax, Nova Scotia to Capt. Francis Albert and Wavie Fern Baker Germain. She grew up along the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia, a thoroughly Canadian girl. She spend the years of World War II in Victoria, British Columbia, scrubbing barnacles off navy ships and installing asbestos in the very narrow hulls of ships where only she could fit. Bette married Henry Archibald of New Town, Nova Scotia on may 23, 1952. Together, they had four children, Steve, Marylee, Jim and Julie. They moved to the Boston area in 1964. After a long battle with multiple sclerosis, Henry died in 1971. A convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Bette served faithfully in many organizations. She loved to attend the Temple and was able to do a great deal of work for her own family. Bette moved from Boston to Utah to set up the office of Plastic Surgeon Blayne Hirsche and later worked for many years as Assistant Administrator of the American Institute of Medical and Dental Technology. She married William J. Durrant on July 1, 1978. Bill turned out to be more than a great companion, he loved a “road trip” as much as Bette and together they burned up more than a few sets of tires, taking grandkids along for fun. “Mum” went quietly to sleep on July 9, 2007 at her home in Provo. Those of us who knew her best, wonder if she was met by angels or the ghosts of pirates, on the other side. Either way, Have a great trip Bette Mae! Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 14, 2007 at 11:30 A.M. in the Edgemont 15th LDS Ward Chapel, 4000 Foothill Drive, where friends may call for viewing after 10:00 A.M. Grave side services and burial will be Saturday afternoon at 4:00P.M. in the Richfield City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
