Beula Foote Shaheen

March 12, 1921 — March 12, 2009

Salina, Utah - Beula Foote Shaheen, 88, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, March 12, 2009. She was a lifelong resident of Salina, Utah, where she was born on March 12, 1921 a daughter of John Ammon Foote Jr. and Nellie Curtis Foote. Beula was the fourth of five girls in the family and was always the tomboy. She spent her childhood working hard to help her family through the depression and loved to hunt for rocks, fossils and arrowheads, as well as sewing, crochet, embroidery and quilting. She graduated from North Sevier High School in 1939. Much of her life, Beula spent waiting tables at The Blue Goose, Mom’s Café and later the family café, The Wasatch. It was while waiting tables that she met her lifelong and eternal companion, Ellis Anthony Shaheen of White Castle, Louisiana. The two were married on September 17, 1939 in Manti, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple on September 23, 2000. Beula had a great love of family, community and country, supporting her husband, sons and grandsons through their military service. Granny was the biggest fan of her children and grandchildren and was always there to support them at ball games, graduations and weddings. She had a strong testimony and love of the gospel and demonstrated that love through her selfless, Christ-like example. People traveled from all over to see Ellis and Beula at the Wasatch and everyone was treated like part of their family. No one ever had an empty plate in Beula’s presence and her entire life was one of service to others. She exuded warmth and compassion to everyone she encountered. She is survived by her son , Chad and Lillian Shaheen of Salina; daughter-in-law Julie Holton Shaheen, Salt Lake City; grandchildren: Lisa and Brady Edwards, Kelly Shaheen, Aaron and Amanda Shaheen, Beckie and Brandon Fabert, Michael Hales, Krystle Shaheen and Casey and Lacey Shaheen; 9 great-grandchildren; sister and best friend, Phyllis Foote Shaheen of Salina.
