Bill Grundy

November 22, 1943 — July 5, 2024

Sanger, Texas/Loa, Utah - William J. Grundy, known affectionately as Bill, passed away at home, surrounded by loved ones, on July 5, 2024, in Sanger, Texas at the age of 80. Born on November 22, 1943, in Teasdale, Utah, while his father served in Europe during WWII, Bill enjoyed his early years around family in the tight knit community. After his father's return, the family eventually moved from the idyllic valley of Loa, Utah to Sacramento, California, where Bill graduated from Grant Union High School in 1961.

Bill met Marsha Poore in 1964 in Placerville, CA, they married on June 6, 1967 and shared three children; Todd, Julie, and Nora. After being drafted and serving in Vietnam, Bill decided to make the Army his career. He served honorably for 27 years, and retired as a Colonel, near his family in California. Bill wasn't quite ready for a quiet and relaxing retirement, so he chose to pursue a teaching credential, and embarked on a new adventure teaching History at Folsom Middle School.

After a few years, two of his three children had settled in Texas, and Bill and Marsha were anxious to be near their grandchildren, so they picked up and relocated to North Richland Hills, Texas. Bill got a new job with Fort Worth ISD, teaching computer technology at Kirkpatrick Middle School, eventually retiring for good in 2008.

Bill was an avid sports fan, and followed the Chicago Cubs, the San Francisco 49ers, as well as all of his grandchildren's recreational and school teams. He and Marsha often traveled many miles to watch a baseball game or dance recital, and Bill was regularly the loudest voice of support from the stands. In retirement, Bill and Marsha spent, and enjoyed immensely, their summers in Bill's early childhood home town of Loa, Utah.

Bill was diagnosed with cancer of the bile duct in the summer of 2021, which he fought valiantly for three years. Bill is survived by his wife, Marsha, his children and their spouses; Todd and Melba, Julie and David, Nora and Scott; eleven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and three brothers and their families. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, fellow soldiers, former students, and all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to make a donation in Bill’s memory to a veteran’s association or to a teacher’s school supply wish list.
