Salina, Utah - Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, Hallie Marie Sparks “Billie” Estep, age 95, died March 23, 2010 in Centerfield, Utah. She was born June 19, 1914 in Standard, West Virginia, a daughter of James Buchanan and Nora Belle James Sparks. She married Willard Carter Estep, September 12, 1932 in Handley, West Virginia. He died June 22, 1967. After his death, Billie moved around to many different places and ended up in Utah with her daughter, Phyllis. She was known to many people as “Aunt Billie”. She served as President of the Eden Rebeckah Lodge in Montgontmery, West Virginia, also the Pocohantas Lodge. Served as President of the PTA. She had an excellent voice and sang bass in a woman’s quartet and many songs in her church. She was an excellent poet and wrote many poems. She loved the outdoors. She is survived by her children: Carletta and Gene Meeker, Phyllis and Ed Calton, all of Salina; John and Elsie Estep, of Catspring, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sue Carol Keltner and 16 brothers and sisters. Memorial services will be held Sunday, April 4, 2010 at 3:00 P.M. in the Salina LDS Stake Center, 98 West 400 North in Salina, where friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services, and burial will take place at a later date in West Virginia.
