Bliss Burr Brinkerhoff

Bicknell, Utah - Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Bliss Burr Brinkerhoff, age 93, of Bicknell, passed away at his home in Bicknell, surrounded by his family on Monday, September 25, 2017 and is now reunited with his beloved wife, Nina and his son, Rollo. Bliss was born December 22, 1923 in Thurber, now Bicknell, Utah, a son of Willard Alma and Myrtle Irene Burr. He graduated from Wayne High School, Class of 1943. He served his country in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946. Bliss married the love of his life, Nina Bell Peterson, January 20, 1948 in Loa, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple, May 4, 1968. They were married for 61 years, when Nina passed away March 2, 2009. Bliss and Nina raised their children in Bicknell, where he was a farmer and rancher. He was involved in many civic activities, including on the Fremont Water Conservancy District for many years, on the Wayne School Board and a member of many other advisory boards. He was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in many callings including Bishop of the Thurber Ward and Counselor in the Loa Utah Stake Presidency, High Councilor, Sunday School Superintendant and very involved in the Scouting Program, where he earned a Silver Beaver Award for 30 years of Scouting. Bliss loved the outdoors and loved doing cowboy work, riding a horse, punching the cattle and going "down below" on the cattle drives. His biggest hobby was he loved people, he liked to visit and people loved to listen to his stories. He is survived by his children: David and Coral Brinkerhoff, Chad and Pamela Brinkerhoff, Pres. Dwight and Laura Brinkerhoff, Linda and Roger Black, all of Bicknell; Neal and Brenda Brinkerhoff of Cedar City; a daughter-in-law: Carol T. Brinkerhoff of Loa; 20 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Leanna Brinkerhoff of Ogden and LaRue Peterson of Loa. He is preceded in death by his oldest son, Rollo Charles Brinkerhoff; his parents, Willard and Myrtle Brinkerhoff; his 5 siblings: Rollo W. Brinkerhoff, Una B. Blackwood Roberts, Mildred B. Taylor, Luana B. Turner Christensen and Dale B. Brinkerhoff; 2 great-granddaughters: Karlee and Kelsie Jack; in-laws: Charles Taylor, Les Blackwood, Ray Roberts, Willis E. Turner, Leonard Christensen, Grant and Margaret Chappell, Elva and Afton Taylor, Clyde and Delia Peterson, Cliff and Theda Peterson, Clint Peterson, Quincy Peterson and Beulah Hunt Peterson Hafen. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. in the Thurber LDS Ward Chapel in Bicknell, where friends may call for viewing Friday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or Saturday morning from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Harold Brown American Legion Post #92 and the Utah Honor Guard will be in the Bicknell Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
