Aurora, Utah – Our kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, Bobby Orlo Hales, age 79, passed away June 1, 2024 at his home in Aurora. He was born on October 27, 1944, a son of Orlo Franklin and Roena Joy Hales.
Bob grew up in Aurora, Kearns, and Granada Hills, California. He enjoyed riding horses, making model airplanes, roping with Grandpa Taylor, and gymnastics. He graduated from Granada Hills High School, Class of 1962.
He married the love of his life, Karen Laura Graves, on September 1, 1962. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on September 3, 1963. They lived in Salt Lake City from September 1962 to October of 1964 when they moved to Aurora. They lived in a little house at the bottom of town and then built their current home and moved into it in December of 1971.
Bob served as an EMT and was a Safety Engineer. He was OSHA Certified in Mine Safety and Construction Safety, as well.
He is an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as a Primary Teacher, High Councilman, Bishop’s Counselor, Bishop of the Henry Branch in Gunnison, Scout Master, Varsity Scout Coach, Ward Missionary, Service Missionary, and Membership Clerk.
He enjoyed riding horses, hunting, leatherwork, woodworking, gun smithing, roping, riding club, team roping, shooting guns, scouting, going to the cabin, working with Bill on the farm, as well as many other pursuits. He loved spending time with his family and serving others.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Karen of Aurora; his children: Tami (John) McWhorter of Green River, Wyoming; Vicky (Nolan) Bastian of Sigurd, Utah; Robert (Colleen) Hales of Fredericksburg, Virginia; Brent (Candy) Hales of Woodland, California; Bill Hales of Aurora; Kent (Becky) Hales of Lewiston, Utah; Melinda (Jason) Goble of Aurora; a nephew, Marc (Kendra) Pollard of San Ramon, California; 35 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; brother, Dent (Debra) Hales of Woodinville, Washington; brother-in-law, David (Paula) Graves of Lexington, South Carolina; step-brother, Harold (Sandy) Yates of Sun Lakes, Arizona; and many other nieces and nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Roena Joy Taylor; his father, Orlo Franklin Hales; sister, Carolin Joy Horan; brother-in law, John Dennis Horan; step-mother, Nora Yates Hales; step father, Virgil Taylor; and a grandson, Brayden Thomas Hales.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 7, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. in the Aurora 1st LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call for viewing Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. or Friday morning from 9:00 to 10:30 prior to the services.
