Bob Johnson

September 16, 1934 — February 25, 2010

Salina, Utah - Robert Hugh Johnson, age 75, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, died of kidney failure on February 25, 2010, at his home in Salina. Bob was born September 16, 1934, in Venice, Utah, a son of Clinton Rudolph and Vera Hansen Johnson. He graduated from Richfield High School, attended USU and later graduated from BYU with a degree in Industrial Arts. He married Ada Claire Kotter, June 6, 1958, in the Manti LDS Temple. Bob began his career teaching at Central Junior High and Granger High School in Salt Lake City, until he was called up to active military service in the Air Force Reserve. Later he moved to Salina where he taught at North Sevier High School and Middle School until he retired. He also taught many night classes. Bob also had a locksmithing business. He loved meeting new people and helping others. After retirement as a school teacher, he worked for the LDS Church FM Group. In his later years, it has been a true joy for him to have former students come and tell him how much they used the skills he taught them. He loved his Heavenly Father. He was active in the LDS Church. As a young man, he was called to serve in the Gulf States Mission. He loved teaching the Gospel. For many years he taught Gospel Doctrine and Priesthood lessons. During his life, he served in a variety of callings, including Bishop, High Councilman, Scoutmaster, and Elder’s Quorum President. He and Claire served for many years at the Manti Temple. Bob was an avid outdoorsman. Throughout his life he loved trapping, hunting, fishing and camping. He loved to spend time outdoors with his family and friends. In the beginning, it was riding Honda Trail 90's and snowmobiles. Later he enjoyed riding 4-wheelers. He has taken hundreds of people out to the San Rafael Desert. He loved the rugged natural beauty and the ancient Native American artwork. He loved hosting family and friends at their property at Accord Lake. Bob is survived by his wife, Claire of Salina; his children: Doug, Mitch, Valerie (Jeff) Turek, Jeff, Joe (Karen); 10 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; a brother, David, and a sister, Dorthy Ann (Dale) Gurley, and a sister-in-law, Ilene Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Freeman, and a sister-in-law, Yvonne Johnson. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 6, 2010, at 12 Noon in the Salina LDS Stake Center, 98 West 400 North, in Salina, where friends may call for viewing Friday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or Saturday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Salina American Legion Post #36 will be Saturday afternoon at 3:00 P.M. in the Elsinore Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah. Bob’s family would like to thank all of the many neighbors, doctors, and care givers who have cared for Bob the last six years. We would like to give a special thanks to the Richfield Dialysis Group. We appreciate your love and compassion towards our husband and father.
