Bob Malmgren

September 16, 1934 — June 11, 2013

Salina, Utah - Our kind and beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, Lyle Robert "Bob" Malmgren, age 78, died June 11, 2013 at his home in Salina, surrounded by his loving family, after a brave and valiant battle with cancer. He was born September 16, 1934 in Centerfield, Utah, a son of Edwin Lawrence and Fern Anderson Malmgren. Bob served in the Army Reserves for 10 years. He married Berva Dawn Holdaway, April 16, 1954 in Salina, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple, January 5, 1980. She died May 25, 2004. He then married Connie Archer Mitchell Young, January 6, 2007 in Yuma, Arizona. Dad was a hard and dedicated worker, working for Art Robinson at Robinson Transport as the first and only driver for many years, working for 17 years before he went to work at the SUFCO Mine out on the Tipple for over 20 years until his retirement. After retirement he spent the winters in warmer climates such as Yuma, Arizona; Death Valley, California and Quartzite, Arizona, with many friends and family members, enjoying music and company. He loved hooking up to the fifth wheel trailer to enjoy the company of family and friends. He met many new friends in his travels, that meant the world to him. Bob took great pride in the family that he raised. He loved having them around and watching them grow, each one special to him. They had three large reunions every year: one at the 4th of July, one on his birthday up in the mountains and one at Christmas time. Dad loved the outdoors, mountains, carpentry, riding ATV's with friends and family. He could build anything from his own cabin, house, picnic tables, beds and many other various crafts. He enjoyed family gatherings and was the funniest man to be around. He especially loved riding Rhinos with all of his friends. He is survived by his wife, Connie, of Salina; children: Debra and Brent Newby, Bobbi and Kent Sylvester, Scott and CeLyn Malmgren, all of Salina; Bruce and Sandy Malmgren of Aurora; Kerri and Shane Shotwell of St. George; 19 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; step-children: Debi and Alan Jensen of Logan; Travis and Julie Mitchell of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Jeff and Lou Mitchell of Leesburg, Virginia; Michael Mitchell of Silver Springs, Maryland; 11 step-grandchildren and 26 step-great-grandchildren; brothers and sister: Edwin Darnel and Janet Malmgren of Plain City; Faye and Robert Torgerson of Price; Ira Malmgren of Grantsville.
