Richfield, Utah – Our kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Carolyn Heppler Spencer, age 87, passed away June 5, 2024, at her home in Richfield, after suffering a stroke earlier in the week. She was born May 15, 1937, in Richfield, a daughter of Chad Norris “Chesty” and Carma Shaw Heppler. She grew up in Richfield, where she enjoyed swimming, riding horses and being with her friends.
She graduated from Richfield High School, Class of 1955, where she excelled on the type and shorthand teams.
Right after high school graduation, Carolyn married the love of her life, Donnell Spencer from Aurora June 6, 1955, in the Manti LDS Temple. They lived in Logan for three years, then Cedar City for a year and then Bountiful for a year, before moving home to Richfield, where they made their home and raised their family.
Carolyn is an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she taught and loved teaching Primary for over 30 years and also served in the Primary Presidency.
She enjoyed making her yard beautiful and getting her hands dirty planting and taking care of her beautiful flowers and yards. She loved playing games with her children and grandchildren. She loved decorating for the holidays and having family parties. Her favorite holiday was Christmas. She and Dad decorated the tree with up to 100,000 icicles each and every year. Neighbors and friends loved her hand-dipped chocolates at Christmas time.
Carolyn enjoyed scrapbooking, sewing, quilting, swimming, taking care of her family, reading and working in her beautiful yard.
She was good at remembering family and friends' birthdays. She loved and cared for others and made many friends of which several called her Mom. Carolyn was a loving, caring person and enjoyed helping and serving her neighbors, family and friends. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her loving husband, Donnell of Richfield; her children: LaJeane Spencer of Richfield; Deanna (Brad) Cowley of Venice; Terry (Arline) Spencer of Central Valley; Cristie (Brian) Wursten of Mesquite, Nevada; 28 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; her sister, Leigh Ann (Donald) Shand of Manti.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her son, Curt Spencer; and her in-laws: Jay and Emma Spencer.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 14, 2024, at 12 Noon in the Richfield 2nd and 10th LDS Ward Chapel, 675 West 200 South in Richfield. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Richfield, Thursday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or at the Ward Chapel in Richfield, Friday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 prior to the services.
