Clayton Crane

July 4, 1925 — January 6, 2018

Salina, Utah - Our kind and beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend, Garth Clayton Crane, age 92, of Salina, passed away January 6, 2018 in Centerfield, Utah. He was born July 4, 1925 in Holden, Utah, a son of Leo Hobson and Mary Donna Stevens Crane. He graduated from North Sevier High School, Class of 1943. He was drafted into the Navy December 15, 1943 and served in the Hawaiian Islands until May 4, 1946. He married his sweetheart, Virginia Mason December 18, 1946 in Aurora, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple December 16, 1947. Virginia passed away April 24, 2014. Clayton was an active member of the LDS Church, serving as a Primary Teacher, Nursery Leader, in the Sunday School Presidency, High Priest Group Leader and in a Bishopric. He was a faithful Home Teacher and loved to go home teaching so he could visit with his families. Clayton loved anything outdoors, hunting, fishing, riding in the side by side and just being out side. He loved watching the Utah Jazz, but most of all, he loved to visit. He is survived by his three children: Larry Clayton and Ellen B. Crane, Shirece and Alvin Dean Owens, all of Salina; Cathie Lin Sampson of Smithfield; 10 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren with one more on the way. He is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia; a granddaughter: Theresa Bosshardt; a great-granddaughter, Macie Dawn Crane; and four sisters: Maureen Crane, Dorothy Hicks, Ellis Rae Jensen and Marilyn Cooke. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 12 Noon in the Salina LDS Stake Center, where friends may call for viewing Saturday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Salina American Legion Post #36 and the United States Navy Honor Guard will be in the Eastside Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
