Clint Morrill

July 21, 1931 — April 20, 2023

Annabella, Utah/Hobbs, New Mexico – Clinton L. Morrill, age 91, of Annabella, passed away April 20, 2023, at the Beehive Home in Richfield, Utah. He was born July 21, 1931, in Tridell, Utah, a son of Charles Ellis and Martha Lamoreaux Morrill.

Clint grew up in Tridell, Utah and graduated from Alterra High School in Fort Duchesne, Utah Class of ’49.

After high school, Clint married his high school sweetheart, Maxine Nyberg in the Salt Lake LDS Temple February 15, 1950. Their first home was in Tridell in Clint’s father’s garage. To this union were born four children: Kathleen, Billy Clinton, Gwen and Edwin W.

Clint worked various jobs to make ends meet including working on an oil well. He went to work for Gulf Oil Corporation in 1952. Clint, Maxine, and their family of four moved from Tridell, Utah to Panguitch, Utah, Cortex, Colorado, Blanding, Utah, Farmington, New Mexico and eventually to Hobbs, New Mexico in 1962 where they lived for the next 58 years. Clint became the New Mexico Production Superintendent by 1977. He supervised 1800 wells, 15 field production foreman, over 130 field employees and hundreds of contractors. Gulf Oil Corporation was bought by Chevron Oil in 1985 and Clint worked for them until he retired in 1992.

After Clint retired, he and Maxine spent as much time as they could visiting their children and grandchildren. They bought a fifth wheel and spent the winters in Arizona. Clint liked to do woodworking and he and Maxine made gifts for their family and friends every Christmas. Clint also loved to play practical jokes on his family and friends.

But most of all Clint adored Maxine and lived to make her happy. As long as they were together that was all he needed. Maxine preceded him in death January 30, 2020.

Clint was one of the early pioneers of the Hobbs, New Mexico Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held many positions of leadership as a member of the Hobbs New Mexico Ward, including Branch President, Bishopric Counselor, High Councilman and Church Historian for the Hobbs Ward. Clint was very committed to service to the community and the church. He was a faithful home teacher and always looked out for the widows in the ward. He tried to attend each and every funeral of his church family and co-workers.

Clint is survived by his children: Kathleen and Kent Higgins, Edwin W. and Kim Morrill all of Annabella, Utah; daughter-in-law: Joni Morrill of Hobbs, New Mexico; 11 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth and Cheryl Morrill of Draper, Utah; brother-in-law: Floyd Tullis of Spring City, Utah; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Morrill of Roy, Utah.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Maxine; a daughter, Gwen Morrill; a son, Bill Morrill; and siblings: Wesley J. Morrill, Frances Marion and Joan Morrill, Marta Tullis and Harold Morrill.
