Craig Chartier

September 21, 1945 — October 27, 2005

Salina, Utah - Craig Lee Chartier, age 60, passed away October 27, 2005 at his home in Salina, surrounded by his loving family, after a valiant battle with cancer. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and genuine friend to many. Craig was born September 21, 1945 in Whittier, California, a son of Army Air Corp. 1st Lieutenant Craig Sr. and Marguerite Davis Chartier. He attended Chino High School. Craig met and married his sweetheart, Valieda E. Ivy, June 5, 1964 in Los Serranos, California. Craig and Val started their family in Pomona, California where he worked building freightliner trucks. He moved his family to Salina, Utah in the spring of 1976. After moving to Salina, he spent 26 years working as head custodian for North Sevier High School. Craig enjoyed working with the students and staff at the high school and was always an enthusiastic supporter of all the high school events. He retired from the Salina City Volunteer Fire Department after serving over 22 years. Craig loved the outdoors and spent many days hunting, fishing, camping and riding his four wheelers with friends and family. Woodworking was one of Craig’s favorite hobbies and he became well known for his creative talent with woodworking. Above all else, the pride of Craig’s life were his children and grandchildren. Craig was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Salina. He is survived by his wife, Val, of Salina; children: Sherri (Gary, deceased) Westbrook of Salina; John and Angela Chartier of Fillmore; five grandchildren: Kelby and Kylie Westbrook of Salina; McKayla, Colby and Brooklyn Chartier, of Fillmore; mother, Marguerite Wolter of Wildomar, CA; brother, Barry and Marcia Chartier of Whittier, CA; sisters, Norma J. McClary of Costa Mesa, CA; Vickie A. Barton of Wildomar, CA. He was preceded in death by his father, Craig Lee Chartier, Sr.; stepfathers, Gene Wolter and Howard Veach; parents-in-law: Claude C. and Marine E. Ivy; son-in-law: Gary Westbrook and a nephew, Eric Cooper. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 1, 2005 at 12 Noon in the Salina 2nd LDS Ward Chapel, located at 87 South 100 East in Salina. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Salina, Monday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. and again Tuesday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial with special Honor Guard by the Salina Fire Department, will be in the Salina Eastside Cemetery under the direction of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
