Dale L. Mckinney

June 13, 1932 — April 11, 2022

Salina, Utah – Our beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend, Dale Lavern McKinney, age 89, passed away April 11, 2022 in Gunnison, Utah. He was born June 13, 1932 in Trear, Iowa, a son of Lester Ernest and Mable Vopal Puckett McKinney. He graduated from Trear High School, Class of 1950 and then got an Associate Degree in College. Dale enlisted in the United States Navy in 1950 and retired in 1969. While serving on the USS Henry W. Tucker, the ship was hit and he was injured on his lower right leg. He carried a scar from that till his death. He also served on the USS Hollister, a destroyer, and the USS Bremerton, a heavy cruiser. While stationed at Kodiak, Alaska, he went hunting Kodiak bear. He shared this adventure with several of his shipmates. Dale married Evelyn Gwen Hunt May 10, 1955 in Torrey, Utah. They were later divorced. He then married Corinne Joanne Creager April 24, 1970 in Torrance, California. She died November 16, 1994. Six months later, he remarried Evelyn Gwen Hunt Black May 16, 1995 in Manti, Utah. She died August 3, 2020. Dale acted as Fire Support for the Salina Firehouse for 25 years and was a member of Farm CoOp for 15 years. He raised pheasants from chick to full grown, then delivered them throughout the western United States where they were released into the wild. Several of his friends were also involved in this effort. Dale is survived by his children: Kenneth A. and Kathy Black of Mapleton; Burke V. and Valarie Black of Centerfield; Michael L. and Feona McKinney of Altamont, New York; Connie Vore of Salina; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; a brother: Bill and Carol McKinney of Gig Harbor, Washington; and a sister, Jana McKinney of Paulsbo, Washington. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and two sisters: Dottie Jean Hodson and Mary Lee Clark. Graveside services with military honors accorded by the Salina American Legion Post #36 and the Utah Honor Guard will be in the Salina Eastside Cemetery on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
