Dan Chavis

December 7, 1954 — January 2, 2024

Dan Kirk Chavis, age 69, passed away January 2, 2024, at his home in Elsinore, Utah. He was born in Richfield, Utah to Budd Edward and Beverly Ann Ence Chavis on December 7, 1954. As a young boy while living in Sandy, Dan enjoyed riding horses, roping, and participating in Junior Rodeo. He also was involved in Boy Scouts and is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

While being a beet digger at Jordan High School he did auto body work and liked to fix up old cars and trucks. He enjoyed woodworking and leather work where he would make wallets for everyone in the family. He graduated in 1973.

After High school Dan moved to Monroe, Utah working at the mine. He married Debra Hunt (Later divorced) and had his three amazing children: Ben, Jenny, and Jesse. He loved to watch them bronc ride, bull ride, barrel race, as well as jockey in many horse races. His children meant the world to him, and he loved getting to watch them do what they were so talented at doing.

Dan went to work driving for Robinson Trucking where he worked for many years. He made many lifelong friends while working there. Dan was a unique classic cowboy that held true cowboy values all of his life. He loved his horses throughout the years and met so many great people along the way.

Tragically after losing all three of his kids throughout a short period of time, his heart was broken. He loved and lived for his kids and missed them beyond measure.

We will all miss this great Cowboy but find peace knowing he is reunited with his children and family.

Dan is survived by his sisters: Anita (Brian) Purser, Trina (Ron) Ballard.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Budd and Beverly Ence Chavis; and his three children: Ben E. Chavis, Jesse James Chavis and Jenny Chavis Miller.
