Richfield, Utah – Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Darrel J. Jessen, age 90, passed away April 7, 2022 in Visalia, California, where he spent the last few years, enjoying life and eating at his favorite restaurants. Darrell was born November 12, 1931 in Greenwich, Utah, a son of Lorin John and Olga Tanner Jessen. He grew up in Greenwich, where he enjoyed playing basketball, going fishing and camping with his parents. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict from February 3, 1950 to December 21, 1953. He attended BYU in Provo and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Arts. Darrell married Beatrice Marie Bowman October 14, 1964 in Richfield, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple June 19, 1965. Marie preceded him in death on November 7, 2007. Darrell and Marie raised their children in Lehi and Salt Lake City. He taught high school and then moved on to owning and operating a metal fabrication and machine shop in Salt Lake. After retiring, he and Marie moved to Richfield. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed fishing, camping and hunting with his family, and wood working. He enjoyed family time, especially during the holidays. He loved western movies and hanging out with his dog, Tilley. He loved the country side and the mountains. Darrell was full of wit and had a great sense of humor. He had a big love of numbers and an impeccable memory of dates. He was a man of his word, honest and giving. He loved to constantly learn and continue to pursue his interest as he aged. He is survived by his children: Katriann and Tom Foley of South Hadley, Massachusetts; Debra and Evan Jones of American Fork, Utah; Lorin and Hana Jessen of New Port, Rhode Island; Katherine Evans, James and Michelle Jessen, all of Visalia, California; Ryan Jessen of West Jordan; 19 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Graveside services with military honors accorded by the VFW Sevier Post #5050 and the Hill Air Force Base Honor Guard will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. in the Richfield City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
