David Craig Lee

July 8, 1949 — March 21, 2023

Monroe, Utah - David Craig Lee had a heart of gold and dedicated himself to serving numerous family members and friends throughout his life. He left us so unexpectedly when he passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Monroe on March 21, 2023. Though quiet for now, his strong, generous, loving, selfless heart will beat within all of us to carry on and honor the life he led and the things he taught each of us.

He was born to Ernest H and Lou Ella Bohman Lee on July 8, 1949, in Richfield, Utah. He attended South Sevier High School, where he was active in FFA and trade school and went on to attend the University of Utah and Southern Utah State College (SUU), graduating in Biological Sciences. He taught high school in Richfield, Utah before attaining his lifelong career in construction, heading many significant projects including the first Rice Eccles football stadium, the replacement of the copper dome on the Utah State Capitol, the old elephant habitat at the Hogle Zoo and several home communities in multiple states.

He married the love of his life Karen Jean Jewkes on October 30, 1992, in Salt Lake City, Utah, adding two stepdaughters, Crystal and Amanda, into his life. They were sealed for time and eternity on January 16, 2010, in the Manti LDS Temple. Karen passed away in 2017, and they are now happily reunited.

Along with his two sons, Shon and Jason, he developed a lifelong bond with his stepdaughter Amy, and her daughter Danielle and great grandson Bradley. He loved the outdoors where he enjoyed riding his motorcycle, traveling in his motor home, camping, riding his RZR, and working on cars, but most of all he enjoyed family and friends. He was humble and did not realize the great impact he had as a husband, father, and friend. What he did know was he was a hard worker and he taught others good work ethics. He loved showing off his dog Buddy’s singing abilities, which he was certain would bring Buddy to stardom. We all knew we could talk to Craig anytime about everything. He would gladly give you the shirt off his back. Craig’s greatest joy was his great-grandson Bradley Rillon Butler and he wanted to watch him grow up.

He is survived by his son Jason Lee; stepchildren, Amy Erickson (Jerri Moser); Amanda Matheson (Cody); granddaughter Danielle Butler (Curtis); great grandson Bradley Butler, and grandaughters Brittany Ortberg (Zack) and Chandee Johnson (Anthony); grandson Jordon Randolph; his brother Tom Lee (Alice); sister, Kathy Chadwick (Neil); and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Karen Jewkes Lee; Son, Shon Lee; Stepdaughter Krystal Randolph; sister Linda Sumsion; brother Richard Lee; and parents Ernest H. and Lou Ella Lee.

A graveside service will be held at the Monroe City Cemetery on April 8, 2023, at 11:00 AM, under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield. Following is a luncheon for family and friends and the opportunity to share our stories and love.

In honor of Craig, give a big bear hug to those you love and be a listening ear.
