David E Helms

Salina, Utah - Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, David Earl Helms, age 78, died April 17, 2011 at his home in Salina. He was born February 1, 1933 in Tacoma, Washington, a son of Vernie and Edna Fitzpatrick Helms. Dave served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1953 and was a Veteran of the “Korean Conflict”. He married Carol Ella Thomas, November 6, 1953 in Ogden, Utah. They were later divorced. He married Jean Barrow, December 24, 1958 in West Warren, Utah. They were later divorced. He married Sharon Jardine, April 12, 1975 in Elko, Nevada. His hobby was tooling leather. He made gun belts and holsters, purses and many other items. He also tooled and dyed soft leather, which people said couldn’t be done. He enjoyed fishing and camping. Dave was a member of the LDS Church, and also an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous for the past 36 years. He is survived by his wife, Sharon, of Salina; daughters: Lauri Marsh of Santa Clara, Utah; Julie “The Jewel” and Bob Westmoreland of Joseph, Utah; Stacey “Butch” Helms of Salt Lake City, Utah; 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; brothers: Harold Fitzpatrick of Kansas; Robert Helms of New Orleans, Louisiana; brother and sisters-in-law: Calvin Carlson, and Carol McCoy, both of Salt Lake City and Katherine Jorgensen of Sigurd; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Betty Lamb; brothers: Elmer (Tug) Helms and Vernie Lee Helms; brother-in-law: Richard McCoy and Sister-in-law: Shirley Carlson. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 21, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. in the Springer Turner Funeral Home Chapel, 260 North 400 West in Richfield, where friends may call for viewing Thursday morning from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Salina American Legion Post #36 and the Utah Honor Guard will be in the Salina Pioneer Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
