Dean Wilson

Salina, Utah - Leslie Dean Wilson, long time Salina resident, died at home on November 7, 2006, of complications from cancer. He was born May 19, 1931 in Bicknell, Utah, a son of Charles Edward and Ruth Smith Taft Wilson. Dean spent his whole life in Salina. He attended schools in Salina and remained there after his marriage to Madge Larsen in 1950 in the Manti LDS Temple. He owned and operated his trucking business for more than 50 years, joined by his sons. Dean had a wonderful sense of humor and was cordial to all he associated with. He loved sports . . . played baseball and basketball, officiated basketball and was a member of a team that won an All Church Softball Championship in 1965. Dean was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in many positions: Young Men’s President, Elder’s Quorum President, High Priest Group Leader and as a counselor in bishoprics. He and Madge served a mission in the Fresno, California Mission and have been ordinance workers in the Manti Temple. Dean served his community as well. He was an EMT, a member of the Salina Jeep Posse Search and Rescue, a member of the Jaycees, and a school board member. Dean will be missed by his family and friends who loved him dearly. He is survived by his wife, Madge L. Wilson of Salina; four sons and one daughter: Brent L. and Dianne Wilson of Pahrump, NV; Madeline Johnson of Orem; Barry E. and Cindy Wilson of Aurora; Don T. and Ra’Shelle Wilson of Pleasant Grove; Lonnie Dean and Shauna Wilson of Orem; 25 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; brother and sister: Delmer Kay Wilson of North Las Vegas, NV; Elaine Blackburn of Salina. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Connie Peterson. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 11, 2006 at 12 Noon in the Salina 3rd LDS Ward Chapel, located at 87 South 100 East, where friends may call for viewing Saturday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Salina Eastside Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
