Deanna Chappell Maxfield

September 10, 1942 — May 30, 2016

Deanna Chappell Maxfield passed from us suddenly and peacefully on Memorial Day, May 30, 2016 with many family members by her side in Bicknell, Utah. Deanna was born Sept. 10, 1942 in Loa, Utah, a daughter of Blain Mansfield and Katie Fearl Webster Chappell. After graduating from Wayne High School, she immediately immersed herself in formal beautician training in Salt Lake City. While attending classes at BYU, and working in the Mademoiselle Salon in Provo, she met and married her husband, Frank LaMar Maxfield, in the Manti Temple on Nov. 25, 1964. Subsequently, she owned and operated her popular salon “Deanna’s Curls ’n Things” in La Mesa, California, which continues to bear her name. Noted for her lifetime love of hairdressing and dedication to her craft, she finally retired after 57 years in the profession and held simultaneous beauty licenses in four states. An active member of the LDS Church, she held various positions as Cub Scout and Valiant Miss leader, librarian, Primary president and Relief Society counselor. But above all, it was the love she showed her family that was most remarkable and special, and she will always be adored by her husband and two children. Deanna will always be remembered by family and friends for her sincere warmth, good humor, kindness and generosity (always supporting others’ needs before her own). By her life’s example, she leaves a long legacy and moral compass for her children and grandchildren to follow. No one remained a stranger for long and she would immediately reach out and engage in uplifting conversations with all those she came in contact with. Her extended network of acquaintances could always expect cards and notes of inspiration no matter the occasion. Before returning to her beloved Utah roots in October 2015, she lived in Pennsylvania. While there, she followed her passion for photography and undertook the challenge of photo-documenting the 205 remaining covered bridges in the state, from which she became an expert on the subject and, alongside her husband, provided exhibits and pictorial presentations to various civic organizations. She is survived by her beloved husband, Frank LaMar; her two children, Mark LaMar and Anna Christine; her two grandchildren, Corinne Leigh and Dan LaMar; her mother, Katie; her sister, Hildred Cobia; and three brothers, Bill, Mathew and Charles. She is preceded in death by her father, Blain Mansfield Chappell and sister, Sue Chappell Olcott Barnson. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. in the Loa LDS Stake Center. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Richfield, Friday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or at the Stake Center in Loa, Saturday morning from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. She will be placed to rest in the Lyman, Utah Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
