Debbie Johnstone

July 26, 1957 — December 31, 2021

Lyman, Utah – Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Deborah Chatterton Johnstone, age 64, passed away December 31, 2021 at her home in Lyman after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born July 26, 1957 in Preston, ID, a daughter of Alan Chatterton and Luetta Rallison Chatterton. She graduated from Madras High School, Class of 1975. She is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Debbie married Del Roy Gonzales July 25, 1981 and they were later divorced. Debbie spent most of her life in Oregon working as a bookkeeper and raising her beautiful and talented daughters. She moved to Salt Lake City in 2005 to take care of her ailing father until he died. It was there that she met Ray Lyman Johnstone and they were married April 13, 2007. Debbie LOVED anything and everything Butterfly. She loved her hummingbirds, her dogs, Niko and Kino. Debbie had such a kind, giving heart. Her sweet voice, her laughter and sense of humor will be missed by so many. She survived with pancreatic cancer for the past 14 years, had a less than 5 year survival, and was the longest pancreatic cancer survivor that her doctors had known. She was a very strong fighter right up to the end. “Debbie was warmth; in her instant kindness to strangers, in helping others, through every meal she enjoyed cooking, and in every scarf or blanket she crocheted for others. Her kindness extended to all living creatures, especially her love for butterflies.” She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Ray, of Lyman; daughters: Nishelle Gonzales of Sandpoint, Idaho and Sharice Gonzales of Durham, North Carolina; 5 grandchildren: Caleb, Fischer, Sawyer, Zakai and Nyla; two brothers: Alan Craig Chatteron of Oceanview, Hawaii and Paul Nicholls of Portland, Oregon; nieces and nephews: Katie Lagua, Camille Chatterton, Tesla Nicholls, and Jake Nicholls. She is preceded in death by her mother Luetta Rallison Raines and father Alan Larson Chatterton. At her request, her remains will be cremated and a memorial service will be held on at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 8th, 2022 at the Mill Cabins and Lodge, 1475 South Highway 24 in Lyman, under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
