September 22, 1918 — March 25, 2008

Redmond, Utah - Our dear husband, father and grandfather, Dell Roy Green, peacefully passed from this life to the next early Tuesday morning, March 25, 2008. He entered into eternal life at the Life Care Center of Reno, following a brief illness. He was 89 years old. Dell was born September 22, 1918 in Redmond, Utah, the son of Alma Zola and Evelyn Christensen Green. Dell was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. His mother died when he was 2 years old. He was then given a home by her sister, Amanda Christensen of Redmond, who loved him very much. During the years which followed, and beginning when Dell was six years old, he started to pull small loads of wood to the cook house where he worked with his Aunt Amanda, the cook, at the Salina Ranger Experiment Station. After entering school, he spent all of his summers at the Ranger Station working and riding horses. Dell graduated from North Sevier High School, Salina, Utah in 1936. He excelled in basketball and track receiving many state championship honors. After high school, Dell attended and played basketball at the Utah State Agricultural Branch College a short time in Cedar City, Utah. Soon expenses motivated him to find work back home. He worked in the Redmond salt mines, the beet fields, and ended up going into business for himself driving a coal delivery truck to the various small towns in the area. On January 10, 1940 he married his high school sweetheart and classmate, Madge Willardson of Redmond, Utah. Dell and Madge were married in the Salt Lake City Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They have been married 68 years. Dell entered the U.S. Navy in 1944. He served on the Destroyer, U.S.S. Awlick, during World War II and saw battle with the Pacific Fleet. He received an Honorable Discharge on February 7, 1946. After the war, Dell continued to deliver coal, and then went to work for the United States Gypsum Company in Sigurd, Utah. Madge and Dell had a son, David, and in 1954 they moved from Utah to Empire, Nevada where Dell continued to work for U.S.G. as a Quality Supervisor until his retirement on September 30, 1981. During this time he served as the L.D.S. Branch President for several years. After retirement, Dell helped build his own home in Gerlach, Nevada where he and Madge moved until the present. He has enjoyed his church, sports, walking, gardening, his family and the good people who came into his life. His family meant the world to him. He loved to see his granddaughters and great- grandchildren. Dell was preceded in death by his father Alma Green and mother Evelyn Green; his brothers Lee Green and Art Green, along with his sister Evelyn Sessions (Green). He is survived by his beloved wife, Madge Green; son, David (Susie) Green; granddaughters Becky Green and Rhonda (Richard) Genz; great grandchildren, Ricky, Sierra and Sequoia Genz; nephew, Allen Green; and nieces, Christine (Kirk) Bullard, Linda Sessions, Susanne (Sam) Huddleston, and Bonnie (Craig) Buchanan. I thought of you with love today, but that is nothing new. I thought about you yesterday and days before that too. I think of you in silence, I often speak your name, All I have are memories and your picture in a frame. Your memory is my keepsake, with which I’ll never part. God has you in His keeping, I have you in my heart. His loving spirit will remain with us forever. Grave side services will be held Saturday, April 5, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. in the Redmond Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Redmond American Legion Post #118 and the Richfield Unit of the Utah National Guard and under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
