Della C. Mulford

Olathe, CO/Grover, UT - Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Della Curtis Mulford, age 79, died April 30, 2009 in Montrose, Colorado of complications from pneumonia. She was born March 10, 1930 in Torrey, Utah, a daughter of Miland and Mary Ann Hunt Curtis. She graduated from Wayne High School, Class of 1948. She married Denny S. Mulford, March 27, 1948 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple August 24, 1965. He died October 21, 2008. Della was born of families who settled the rugged deserts of Southern Utah, and that pioneer heritage would help to define her life. She was a rancher, and loved the rural way of life. Della was a caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an active member of the LDS Church, serving as Primary President, Primary Teacher, in the Relief Society Presidency and in the Young Women’s Programs. She served a Temple Mission and also as a ward missionary, and she faithfully stood beside her husband while he served as Bishop. Della was know as a loving and kind person, like a candle in the window, Della’s warmth drew people to her. Many lonely and lost people found refuge in her welcoming and loving home. She was an expert horse woman, raised a beautiful garden and was a wonderful cook. She had an affinity for animals and doctored many sick calves, lambs, and horses back to health. She married the sweetheart of her youth and they celebrated 60 years of wonderful matrimonial bliss. Della is survived by her four children: Cassy Ann and Jerry Mitchell of Denver, Colorado; Janey Ree Sorensen of Montrose, Colorado; Vally D. and Julie Mulford of Delta, Colorado; DenDel Mulford of Montrose, Colorado; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Novella Mulford of Richfield, UT and Yvonne Bagley of Greenwich, UT. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and two sisters: Volley Curtis, Gerald Curtis, Deloyd Curtis, Rodney Curtis, Orin H. “Bud” Curtis, Mary LaDelpha Allen Rich and Iola May Curtis. Memorial services will be held Thursday, May 7, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. in the Delta LDS Ward Chapel, 1679 Pioneer Road, in Delta, Colorado, where friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 9, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. in the Torrey LDS Ward Chapel in Bicknell, Utah, where friends may call for viewing Saturday morning from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Torrey Cemetery, Torrey, Utah, under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
