Circleville, Utah – Our beloved Father, Jerry Deon Springer, age 83, passed away Saturday, October 30, 2021 at his home in Circleville of complications from COVID Pneumonia. His beloved wife and our beloved mother, Carol Gay Baker Springer, age 79, followed him in death on Sunday, October 31, 2021 at her home in Circleville of complications from COVID Pneumonia. Deon was born February 9, 1938 in Teasdale, Utah, a son of Jay Reed Springer and Fannie Lyman Springer. He graduated from Jordan High School, Class of 1956. He served an LDS mission in the Gulf States mission, primarily in Texas. He also served his country honorably in the Air National Guard for 6 years. Carol was born February 4, 1942 in Murray, Utah, a daughter of Vyron and Agnes Jeanette Morris Baker. She graduated from Jordan High School, Class of 1960 and then attended BYU for 1 year. Deon and Carol were married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple August 16, 1961. To this union were born seven children. They were married for 60 years and were only separated in death by 22 hours. Deon is an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as Scoutmaster, in the Elders Quorum Presidency, Sunday School teacher, in the Stake Sunday School Presidency and many other callings. He had a strong desire to help others regardless of status or situation. He served at the Utah State Prison in Draper helping officiate in the sacrament services and teaching Sunday school lessons. He enjoyed archery and rifle hunting, fishing, carpentry, handiwork, and reloading ammunition. He loved the movie “The Big Country”. Carol is also an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as a Primary Teacher, as Relief Society President, Stake Primary President, Primary Teacher and in many other callings. She enjoyed camping, fishing, poetry, crocheting, sewing and being a mother. One of Deon and Carol’s greatest joys is their family. They made family time a priority. They spent many hours teaching their children and making memories. They also served together in the Provo Temple for several years. Deon and Carol are survived by their 7 children and spouses: Gwen and Wayne Hardy of Rapid City, South Dakota; Connie and Jim Spencer of Syracuse; Jerry and Patrice Springer of Eagle Mountain; Elaine and Brian Shrewsbury of Grantsville; Nathan and Christy Springer of Lehi; David and Jani Springer of West Jordan; Danial and Carol Springer of Circleville; 39 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way. Carol is also survived by a sister, Marilyn Jenson of Eagle Mountain. She is preceded in death by her husband, Deon; her parents; and two brothers: Paul Baker and Ron Baker. Deon is also survived by siblings: Dale and Kareen Springer of Alpine; Verla Larson of Murray; Lydia and Dallas Anderson of Louisville, Mississippi; John and Mary Springer of Sandy. He is preceded in death by his parents; and 2 sisters: Geraldine Paulsen and Betty Jean Springer. Joint funeral services for Deon and Carol will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 12 Noon in the Granite Ridge LDS Ward Chapel, 3100 East 9600 South in Sandy, where friends may call for viewing Friday evening from 6 to 8 PM or Saturday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Granite Cemetery, 2969 East 9800 South in Sandy, under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
