Devere Childs

DeVere Childs Richfield, Utah - Melvin DeVere Childs, age 59, of Richfield, died January 5, 2004 in Provo, Utah of complications from pneumonia. He was born May 3, 1944 in Spanish Fork, Utah, a son of Russell Clay and Clara May Cornaby Childs. He graduated from Springville High School, Class of 1963. He served a mission for the LDS Church in the Toronto Canada Misson. DeVere married Shauna Marie Waters, September 1, 1973 in Ely, Nevada. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple, April 30, 1994. DeVere was an active member of the LDS Church, serving as a very faithful Home Teacher, in the Elder’s Quorum Presidency, Sunday School Presidency and at the Family History Center. He enjoyed being a Grandpa. He like going hunting, fishing, ice fishing, mowing his lawn with his riding lawnmower and putting up his bicycle at Christmas time. DeVere is survived by his wife of Richfield; children: Russell and Brenda Childs of St. George; Camla and Gary Nielsen, Kelsey Childs and her fiancee, Scott Eyre, Jaclyn and Ryan Helms, all of Richfield; 8 grandchildren; three brothers and one sister: Ardeen and Nida Childs of Provo; Carolee and Howell Newman of St. George; Floyd and Judy Childs of Draper; Fred and Anita Childs of Sunset. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother and one sister: Dale Childs and Delores Crandall. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 9, 2004 at 12 Noon in the Richfield 7th LDS Ward Chapel, located at 159 North 400 West in Richfield. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Richfield, Thursday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. and at the ward chapel, Friday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Richfield City Cemetery under the direction of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
