Dianne Barney

Our kind and beloved Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Sister and friend, Ada Dianne Evans Barney, age 79, passed away June 14, 2024, at her home in Richfield, surrounded by her children, after a long and admirable battle with cancer.

Dianne Barney, AKA Ada Dianne Churchill, Magillacuttie Evans, Ader Button Batter, Ader Skater, Grandma Honey, Meniscus, Hood Ornament, and her most treasured nick name, Dainty Little Squash bug, will be greatly missed. Anyone who knew Dianne, knew that she would give the shirt off her back or food off her plate to anyone who needed it. Generous doesn’t go deep enough to describe Dianne. We will truly miss her impact. While her passing leaves her family and friends missing her, she was the light and laughter of every gathering. Her spunky attitude and contagious laughter touched everyone she came in contact with. No one left unscathed!

She was born November 4, 1944, in Salt Lake City, a daughter of Able Wilkens and Velma Marian Howard Evans. She grew up in Salt Lake City, and graduated from Olympas High School, Class of 1962, then moved to Cedar City before making her home in Richfield. Dianne met, fell in love with, and married Blake J. Barney December 14, 1964, in Ely, Nevada. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple June 21, 1973. Blake preceded her in death June 23, 2018.

Dianne’s career choices were always centered around serving her community. She worked in the sewing factory and she loved making Forsey bars. She served as activities Director for the Richfield Care Center, as an EMT for Sevier County, and Operating Room Technician for Sevier Valley Hospital. She also worked for Central Utah Counseling. She was recognized as the Women of the Year in 2006 by Richfield City.

She is an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as a Primary Teacher, Ward Chorister and Young Women’s Leader.  Dianne is also member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Camp Josephine Cove.

Dianne enjoyed singing, doing puzzles and playing board games, and swimming at the pool in Mesquite. She was a practical jokester, and she wouldn’t pass up the opportunity of throwing a pie in the face of any of her friends. Something that happened quite often.

Dianne is survived by her children: David William (Jolaine) Barney of Richfield; Shelley Mae (Chet) Naser of Syracuse; Stacey Lynn (Lance) Snow of Central Valley; Derek Blake (Cassie) Barney of Richfield; 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; her sisters: Marian Lyons of Lincoln, California and Robin McCormick of Temecula, California.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Able and Velma Evans; her beloved husband, Blake; and a grandson, Cody Bryan Naser.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Zions Way Home Health and Hospice, especially Hailey Nielson, the Hospice Nurse; Kevin Anderson PA; Dr. Ryree, Oncologist and Kim Wood, Oncologist Nurse; Richfield City Police Department and Richfield Ambulance Crew, and Springer Turner Funeral Home, for their friendship throughout the years and all their help.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. in the Richfield 10th LDS Ward Chapel, 675 West 200 South in Richfield. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Richfield, Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. or at the ward chapel Saturday morning from 9:00 to 10:30 prior to the services.
