Loa, Utah – Our beloved, Richard Allen “Dick” Nielson, age 91, passed away July 27, 2022 at his home in Loa. Dick was born August 24, 1930 in Richfield, a son of Walter Orian and Erma Eldora Salisbury Nielson. He grew up Richfield and graduated from Richfield High School, Class of 1948. When he was younger, he and some of his friends climbed a fence into a watermelon patch and ate so much watermelon they got sick. Dick swore he would never eat another watermelon after that. After his graduation, he moved to Compton, California in 1952, where he met and married Claudina R. Hart. They were married in 1961 in Compton. They moved to Norwalk, California in 1963. Claudina passed away in 1986. Dick then met and married Joyce R. Thatcher in 1986 in Paramount, California. After Dick retired, in 1986, they moved to Richfield, Utah. Joyce passed away in 1998. He then met and married Mary Ann Moosman Bliss from Loa in October of 1999 and moved to Loa. Dick loved wood working and making wood furniture. He would stay in his shop from the time he woke up until it was dinner time. He enjoyed watching westerns on television. Dick is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a hardworking, kind and loving man that had the ability to make people smile and laugh. He was caring and had a heart of gold. He will be missed. Dick is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, of Loa; children: Debbie and Doug Davis of Leeds, Julie and Kim Zentmyer of Fruita, Colorado; Richard and Katherine Nielson of Richfield; Linda and Alma Paulson of West Jordan; daughter-in-law: Robin Bliss of Hurricane; 7 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law: Linda Nielson of Victorville, California. He is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Douglas Criss Bliss; a grandson, Collin Chance Turner; and his siblings: Hal Arland Nielson; Phillip Ray and Renee Nielson, Robert W. and Vivian Nielson, William Boyd and Shirley Nielson. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at 10:30 A.M. in the Richfield City Cemetery. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Richfield, Wednesday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Richfield City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
