Don Potter

April 6, 1940 — June 29, 2014

Kanab, Utah - Our kind and beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, Carl Donald (Don) Potter, age 74, of Kanab, was taken from us on Sunday, June 29, 2014 in a tragic motorcycle accident up Salina Canyon. Don was born April 6, 1940 in Butler, New Jersey, a son of Carl Caldwell and Katherine Rickman Potter. He served his country in the US Navy. He also enjoyed a long career of truck driving, which took him to many places throughout America and Canada. He married Nancy Dotti, in 1968 in Honey Brook, Pennsylvania. They were later divorced. He married his soul mate, Joyce Lareatha Lewis, September 11, 1997 in Kanab, Utah. She died September 1, 2006. Don was a member of the Lions Club and a member of the VFW. He enjoyed camping and riding his motorcycle. Don was very active in AA helping and encouraging others for over 30+ years of sobriety. He had traveled all across the country on his motorcycle or in his truck and loved to visit different diners and see friends and family along the way. He is survived by his children: Donna (Ken) Harney, Carl Potter (Holly Anderson), and Carrie (Brian) Ferguson, all of Price Utah, Jeanette Potter, of Salt Lake City; Diane Littlejohn of Georgia; Paula (David) Lewis of Salina; Rebecca Meyer of San Diego, California and Tony Lewis of Cedar City; 9 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; Nancy Potter, his friend and mother of his children; a brother, Gregg Potter of San Diego, California and a sister, Janine (Rich) Everett of New Jersey. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Caldwell Potter and Katherine Rickman Potter; his step mother, Beatrice Reid and his second wife, Joyce Potter. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. in the American Legion Hall, 68 West 400 North in Kanab, Utah where friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services. "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference."
