Venice, Utah - Dora Hurdsman Muir, of Venice, passed away February 26, 2010 at the Richfield Care Center. She was 88 years old. Dora was born in Mt. Emmons, Utah on March 18, 1921, a daughter of William Charles and Rachel Ann Thacker Hurdsman. She lived in Mt. Emmons until she was 14, when the family moved to Richfield. She married Leon David Muir of Beaver, Utah on February 10, 1940 at Bishop Alexander Jensen’s home in northeast Richfield. Dora and Leon lived in Beaver for a time before returning to Sevier County and purchasing a home in Venice. They were the parents of four children. In 1959, Dora and Leon moved to McGill, Nevada where Leon worked for Kennecott Copper Corporation and where the two younger boys, Wayne and Steven grew up. Dora’s lifetime occupation was mother and homemaker----and she was outstanding at what she did! Dora enjoyed life and especially doing things for her family and with her family. She liked sewing, crocheting, cooking, family picnics and campouts, going fishing and hunting with her husband and boys. When the grandchildren came along, she was great----there was not better grandmother than she was and she loved it. She enjoyed all of their visits, doing things with them and was so proud of all of their accomplishments. In 1986, Dora and Leon moved back to Venice to be nearer to their children and grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening and getting together with family and friends in the area. Mom grew up during the Great Depression years, so she learned to make do with what she had, but that was not a drawback for her. As a homemaker, her home was a warm, inviting and wonderful place to be. She could whip up a delicious meal with very humble ingredients. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren owe their very being to this fine lady. Mom lead an exemplary life. We, her family, love her dearly and we will certainly miss her, but we are so grateful that she was part of our lives. She is survived by her children: Beverly and Bob Pond, Gene and the late LuWanna Muir, all of Venice; Wayne and Jorja Muir of Elko, Nevada; Steven and Connie Muir of Ely, Nevada; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren: David G. Muir and Nancy F. Muir; three brothers and three sisters: William L. Hurdsman, Warren I. Hurdsman, Keith S. Hurdsman, Lena H. Major, Clara Louise Knutson and Lila H. Hardy; her parents and her husband, Leon Muir. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at 12 Noon in the Venice LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Richfield, Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or at the ward chapel in Venice, Wednesday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Richfield City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
