Doug Bliss

January 9, 1962 — June 29, 2014

Virgin/Loa, Utah - Our kind and beloved husband, father, grandfather, son and brother, Douglas Criss Bliss, age 52, died June 29, 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada, of complications from a motorcycle accident. He was born January 9, 1962 in Murray, Utah, a son of Chan Fred "Chuck" and Mary Ann Moosman Bliss. He graduated from American Schooling, Class of 1989 and the Utah Peace Officers Standard Training in 1990. He married Robin Deonna Uptain, October 5, 1993 in Loa, Utah. Doug served as the Chief Deputy in the Wayne County Sheriff's Department for 19 1/2 years. He was an honorary member of the Wayne County Search and Rescue, was a Drug Recognition Expert, received the "Yes Utah Award" and was a valued member of the community. He was a member of the LDS Church. Doug was an avid outdoorsman. He loved everything from fishing, hunting, riding four-wheelers, camping and boy did he ever love his margaritas! His passion for gardening showed in the many hours he spent in his yard and it would take numerous people to do the job he did by himself. His grandchildren called him "Fix it Felix" because he could fix anything and he loved his grandchildren more than anything! Doug is survived by his wife, Robin, of Virgin and Loa; children: Loren Chan and Sabryna Bliss of Hurricane; Roger and Kirsty Baker of Riverton, Wyoming; Nichole and Whitey Brown of Loa; 6 grandchildren; his mother, Mary Ann Bliss and Dick Nielson of Loa; sisters: Linda and Alma Paulsen of West Jordan; Julie and Kim Zentmeyer of Grand Junction, Colorado; Debbie and Doug Davis of Loa; 2 nieces, 2 nephews; 4 great-nieces; 5 great-nephews and 1 great-great-nephew. He was preceded in death by his father, Chuck Bliss; his grandparents: Elmer and Elma Moosman; Joseph and Elva Bliss; an aunt and uncle, Loren and Gerry DeLeeuw; brother-in-law: Terri Rhoades; his best friend, James K. Turner; and his father-in-law: John Uptain. There will be no formal services, but friends may call for viewing at the Fremont LDS Ward Chapel, Tuesday, July 8, 2014 from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. As per his wishes, his remains will be cremated and burial will take place at a later date under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
