Doug N. Anderson Aurora, Utah - Douglas Neil Anderson, age 83, of Aurora, died June 10, 2003 in Mayfield, Utah. He was born March 11, 1920 in Aurora, a son of James Arnel and Irene Kennedy Anderson. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He married Afton Ernstsen, September 5, 1947 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple, December 9, 1955. Doug lost his mother when he was only six years old. He was raised by relatives and grandparents. He left school when in the eighth grade to earn his own way. From then on, he was known for his ability to work and his willingness to do so. He was the first volunteer from Aurora to enter the military service in WWII and served as a medic in France and Germany. He was discharged at the end of the war with five years in the military. He and his wife, Afton, spent 38 years living in Anaheim, California and after retiring, they returned to Aurora. He is survived by his wife, Afton, of Aurora; children: Courtney and Sharon Anderson of Irvine, CA; Neil D. and Robin Anderson, Aurora; Sheldon H. and Laura Anderson, Riverside, CA; Sherman K. and JoAnn Anderson, Anaheim, CA; Barry Clay and Donna Anderson, Trabuco, CA; Shadara and Brian Arn, Las Vegas, NV; 22 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; brother, Lorin Anderson, Ephraim. He was preceded in death by a son, Gardell Anderson; two brothers: Leonard and Lawrence. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 14, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. in the Aurora LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call for viewing Friday evening from 7 to 9 P.M. and again Saturday monring from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Salina American Legion Post #36 will be in the Aurora City Cemetery under the direction of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
